The County of Chautauqua owns and operates two airports. The Chautauqua County Jamestown Airport is a commercial facility with scheduled airline service, and the Chautauqua County Dunkirk Airport is a General Aviation Airport. The Jamestown facility is served by Gulfstream International with service between Jamestown and Cleveland, Ohio. The modern terminal building is over 21,000 sq. ft. with an adjacent parking lot able to accommodate 350 cars. We have a full service restaurant and Hertz car rental in the terminal building. The local Community College leases space for a classroom in our terminal building for their aviation programs, and we offer the business flyer the free use of our conference room. Jamestown Aviation is the full-service Fixed Base Operator (FBO) on the field, offering flight instruction, avgas and jet fuel service, maintenance and avionics service, tie downs and in-hangar overnight parking facilities. The airport has over 20 based aircraft and logs over 35,000 aircraft operations per year. Federal Express operates daily flights between Buffalo, NY and our airport in conjunction with the operation of their 20,000 sq. ft. distribution center located here on the field. The most recent major change at the Jamestown Airport facility is the construction of a 510' tunnel over the road on the western border of the field. This was part of a $12.5 million federal grant project to extend the runway safety area on both ends of our primary runway as well to install a new Instrument Landing System (ILS). That project will be completed during the summer of 2008. The Chautauqua County Dunkirk Airport is also operated by the county. Dunkirk Aviation is the full-service FBO at that general aviation facility. Currently there are over 30 aircraft based on the field, with total operations exceeding 22,000/year. Lengthening of the major runway through federal grants is in the planning stages, along with installation of 10 new T-Hangars as a result of funds made available through grants from the State of New York.
