CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY AMERICAN RED CROSS WEBSITE

The Asthma Connections phone line is available for anyone living in the eight counties of Western New York who may have questions about asthma. The Asthma Connections number will link those with asthma and their families to regional resources and services. Needs may be financial, childcare or asthma education and supplies. This Care Coordination service is designed to help participants connect with local asthma specialists or programs to help them manage their asthma more effectively. Proper management should avert many emergency visits and hospital stays. Hours are 9:00AM - 5:00PM Monday - Friday.

This program provides eligible individuals access to free or low-cost health insurance coverage. Eligibility includes pregnant women and children up to 19 years old, depending on family income. Health Insurance is accesses through Medicaid or New York State's Child Health Plus insurance program. Program outreach areas include community schools, WIC clients, health fairs, and other community-based events.

A program designed to reduce the risks of mental retardation, birth defects and developmental disabilities. The program addresses responsible choices that young people and couples planning on having children can make to help ensure a healthy future for their children. Topics include effects of smoking, alcohol & drug use, STD's and AIDS on the unborn child, along with the importance of proper nutrition. Keeping a family health tree and early prenatal care in promoting healthy birth outcomes.

A disablity awareness and safety program designed for the pre-school through second grade population. Through the use of dolls with disabilities students learn about various disabling conditions and adaptive equipment. Emphasis is placed on abilities and similarities that a person with a disability shares with everyone else. A safety portion of the program is taught to students on ways they can accept certain responsibilities in order to reduce the incidence of environmental accidents.

This program provides case management, translation and transportation to the minority population to assist them to access appropriate available services for the developmentally disabled. Must be diagnosed as developmentally disabled prior to age 21.
